MANARA - Lot 114
MANARA MILO MANARA Gulliveriana, Les Humanoïdes Associés 1996 Original plate no. 23. India ink on paper 45.5 × 63.5 cm (17.91 × 25 in.) Gulliveriana is one of Manara's adaptations of the masterpieces of world literature from an erotic angle, as he had done with Apuleius' Golden Ass or the Kamasutra. Published in several issues in Italy in the travel magazine Gulliver, this album takes its inspiration from Jonathan Swift's work by putting a ravishing damsel - obviously scantily clad - in the place of the main hero. Swift's impertinence and creativity are combined here with the facetiousness of Manara, who has no equal when it comes to letting his fantasies run wild. In addition to his usual sensuality and graphic qualities, the bold triangular composition is underscored by a multitude of tall chimneys.
