JUILLARD - Lot 93
JUILLARD ANDRÉ JUILLARD PLUME AUX VENTS L'Oiseau-Tonnerre (T.2), Dargaud 1996 Original plate no. 36. Signed. Colored inks on paper 32 × 40.5 cm (12.6 × 15.94 in.) Another important plate in the Plume aux vents series, following on from 7 Vies de l'Épervier (7 Lives of the Sparrowhawk): Ariane de Troïl is reunited in Quebec with her father, the knight Condor nicknamed "Thunderbird" by the Indians, who is also her assassin. He doesn't know she's not dead. For the young woman, who has come to forgive him, the reunion is not idyllic... André Juillard is often associated with Ligne Claire, because of his proximity to the masters of the Brussels School, Jacobs and Jacques Martin. But that's a mistake: when it comes to coloring, Ligne Claire doesn't allow for modeling, and it's precisely in this area that Juillard deploys his science. And that's precisely where Juillard's skill comes into its own, in this stormy, tragic scene in which the protagonists trade under the forbidden gaze of their Indian allies.
