CHALAND - Lot 48
CHALAND YVES CHALAND BOB FISH Les Humanoïdes Associés 1981 Original plate no. 24, prepublished in Métal Hurlant n° 56, October 1980. Signed. India ink on paper 44 × 32 cm (17.32 × 12.59 in.) Yves Chaland was a key player in the Ligne Claire movement of the 1980s, embodied by Joost Swarte, Floc'h, Ted Benoit and Serge Clerc. It was a movement that both deconstructed and rehabilitated the great figures of classic comics, which at the time were steeped in morality and good feelings. Its hero, Bob Fish, is a cynical character far removed from the virtuous icon of the defender of the widow and the orphan. A sort of anti-Valhardi, the detective created by Jijé in the 1940s. From Jijé and the Franquin of the 1950s, Chaland inherits supple brush inking, perfectly legible lettering and, above all, a sense of narration like no other. What a marvel!
