JERRY SPRING
The Master of the Sierra (T.10), Dupuis 1962
Original plate no. 9, prepublished
in Le Journal de Spirou no. 1142, dated
March 3, 1960. India ink on paper
33.5 × 46 cm (13.19 × 18.11 in.)
Jerry Spring is commissioned by a millionaire to find his grandson in Mexico, who was kidnapped 25 years ago during the revolution, while his parents were murdered. His investigation takes him to the Sierra. This script by Philippe Gillain, the artist's own son, is based on his father's experience of living in Mexico and the United States in the 1940s-1950s. He therefore knows perfectly well the settings in which his characters evolve, adding a touch of authenticity to this splendid page.
