"The draftsman sketches the various images that make up the sequence, playing with the different planes, daring from time to time and always appropriately to use a particular angle of view. He accumulates strokes in search of the most explicit, most telling attitude. He looks for the clearest, truest, most demonstrative form. He erases, repeats, overloads. He treats the expressions on the faces with equal care, seeking to make the feelings he describes as obvious as possible, accusing these faces of all the clues to these feelings."
