ROCHETTE JEAN-MARC ROCHETTE Sunset on the Marsare, original illustration created in 2023. Signed. Watercolor on paper 62 × 47.3 cm (24.41 × 18.62 in.) Sunsets over Marsare are always amazing. But if you try to represent them from a photo, they're kitschy, déjà vu, completely cold, stale, static... In short, everything this watercolor isn't. To succeed in capturing them, you have to give the watercolor some freedom, provide it with the colors it needs, add them in the right order, guide it a little, but accept its iterations, its chaos, above all let it breathe... And then, sometimes, what happens in the sky is repeated on the paper. The realistic black silhouettes of the mountains do the rest. J.-M.R.
