UDERZO
ALBERT UDERZO ASTÉRIX Original illustration for an advertising box for the confectioner Brochet in 1967-1968. Signed. Gouache on heavy cardboard 24.4 × 24.5 cm (9.61 × 9.65 in.) This is a rather exceptional document, from one of Asterix's best graphic periods, that of Asterix the Legionnaire and Asterix the Arverne Shield, which is no longer in the schematism of the early days and not yet in the realism of Asterix in Corsica, for example. This was a time when Uderzo still had the opportunity to do advertising work by hand, with the help of his brother Marcel Uderzo, who assisted him on Tanguy et Laverdure in particular. The result is this impeccable execution in gouache, born of his experience in advertising drawing, with an infallible sense of detail, such as the mistletoe at the bottom of the drawing, a parasitic plant growing on the oak tree whose leaves border the drawing.
