David B is undoubtedly one of the most important contemporary French authors, and one of the co-founders of L'Association, where he introduced Marjane Satrapi. With L'Ascension du Haut Mal, he became a figure of intimate writing as it emerged in the early 1990s. His style, with its expressionistic use of black, is immediately recognizable. As in Le Cheval blême and Les Incidents de la nuit, he explores the surrealist register of dreams, an example of which can be found here. His work will be particularly highlighted in the major La BD à tous les étages exhibition at the Centre Pompidou this summer.
