Olivier Ledroit easily takes his place alongside the greatest lock-setters of the imaginary with his purely musical drawing, in which scintillating, baroque motifs recur obsessively, as in Wagner's operas. The mystical evocation of this medieval Gothic town dominated by evil bears the imprint of Patt Mills, fascinated by the English literature that, from Horace Walpole's Castle of Otranto to Bram Stoker's Dracula and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, has shaped the world of fantasy right up to the present day. In this double plate, the sky's flame-red color dominates the city, composed of a profusion of dry strokes like twigs ready to burst into flames.
