Le Monde d'Edena corresponds to a key period in Moebius's spiritual journey: he gradually detaches himself from the earthy gangue of the Gir period, then the Dionysian gangue of the Jodorowsky era, for a slightly more mystical, poetic, Apollonian yet surreal phase, which he begins with Major Fatal. It begins with an advertising commission for Citroën, Le Monde d'Edena, and culminates, under the theoretical influence of instinctotherapy, in an Edenic evocation of an original, pre-sin world. In the second volume, Moebius takes this first ethereal, fluffy but coherent universe, with its spiritual and poetic dimension, and develops it into a subtextual critique of a technological evolution - today we would say transhumanist - that is causing us to lose our link with the living. Twin personalities Stell and Atan, discovering a technology-free world in Eden, are led to eat natural products that reconnect them with their animal impulses and identities. They'll find out when they wake up...
