WILL TIF AND TONDU L'Ombre sans corps (T.16), Dupuis 1970 Original plate no. 29, prepublished in Le Journal de Spirou no. 1615 March 27, 1969. Signed. India ink and white gouache on paper 36.5 × 46.5 cm (14.37 × 18.31 in.) L'Ombre sans corps is the first Tif et Tondu scripted by Maurice Tillieux, who would deliver eleven stories to the series in less than ten years. Tillieux refocuses the series on detective plots, many of which are remakes of the Félix series he had produced for Héroïc-Albums a decade earlier. It's a story about an invisible man - or rather, a primate - that the hairless and the bald man set out to recover without doing too much damage. Will's elegance and taste for design are again on display, as he brilliantly draws this chase through the middle of London. Conceptually, it's not so easy to draw, because in England, driving is on the left, even if - the pun is Tillieux's - female drivers are dexterous.
