CUZOR STEVE CUZOR HENRY FLEMING'S BATTLE Dupuis... - Lot 45 - Daniel Maghen Enchères et Expertises
CUZOR STEVE CUZOR HENRY FLEMING'S BATTLE Dupuis 2024 Original plate no. 92, signed. India ink and white gouache on paper 48 × 62 cm (18.9 × 24.41 in.) In this plate, we're at the theater. On stage, in the halo of light, Henry and Wilson, who have gone to fetch water. Backstage, on the courtyard side, the battle is raging (previous page) and the two men prefer to look away. But in the garden, behind the curtain, they overhear a meeting of the brass that will tell them a lot about how they are regarded. How to give a lot of information in a few spaces? Henry and Wilson overhear a discussion between a general and his staff, and learn that they're going to charge. It's a powerful moment. But we mustn't lose sight of the fact that they have to come back with full bottles. So I came up with this large horizontal box, more suggestive than explanatory, showing them with their feet in the river. S.C.
