JOE BAR TEAM
Volume 1, Vents d'Ouest, 1990
Best driver of the day, original plate no. 26,
prepublished in Moto Journal 1989-1990. Signed.
India ink and white gouache on paper
36.5 × 43 cm (14.37 × 16.93 in.)
If there's one area that's completely foreign to the four Joe Bar nuts, it's road safety. However, just as a broken clock fortuitously gives the right time twice a day, it can happen that one or other of the above-mentioned lunatics complies with the rules of good behavior in spite of himself. At least, that's what Edouard proves in this hilarious panel. Amusing detail: if the biker's thoughts are to be believed, this seems to be the first time in his life that he's driven slowly - or, at the very least, within the speed limit.
"This gag was inspired by the wild theories we sometimes exchanged with Moto Journal testers. According to them, driving very fast on the freeway was still the best way to stay whole. After all, this means never letting your guard down, anticipating traffic movements and looking as far ahead as possible. All things which, as we all know, are a guarantee of safety. What's more, this extreme tension prevents you from falling asleep at the wheel. Or at the handlebars, as on this board. It's also worth noting that, through Édouard, I had a lot of fun gently teasing the "harleyists", who are better known for rolling over than roughing it."
