BAR2 JOE BAR TEAM Volume 5, Vents d'Ouest, 2003 Joe, Ed, Guzzi, original plates #30 and #31. Patches in panel 3 of plate 30. Signed. India ink on paper Plate no. 30: 28.4 × 38 cm (11.18 × 14.96 in.) Plate no. 31: 28.4 × 39 cm (11.18 × 15.35 in.) These are the two plates in a story that, for the third time, shows Édouard in the role of passenger. And it's surprising to note that, in this gag, Édouard is not at all worried, and even orders his driver to increase the pace. This attitude contradicts what Bar2 explained earlier about passengers. "I'm not contradicting myself that much! Because the context here is very different. In this one, Ed is being transported, not by a handgrip enthusiast, but by a slow, cautious biker. So he has little to be anxious about. Not enough, in any case, for his anxiety to override the exasperation caused by his driver's slow, clumsy driving. For if there's one thing people like him loathe, it's seeing a biker shamelessly trample on the noble laws of driving. And if said biker is the person transporting them, their exasperation reaches such a climax that they forget the risks involved. Add to this the fact that, given Ed's penchant for sarcasm, it's hard to imagine him missing such a good opportunity to take a swipe at a handlebar nerd, even if he's a friend doing him a favor. After all, Ed doesn't have a very good heart.
