GIBRAT
JEAN-PIERRE GIBRAT LE SURSIS, Dupuis Cécile à la fontaine, original illustration created in 2023. Signed. Watercolor and acrylic inks on paper 30.3 × 46.4 cm (11.93 × 18.27 in.) The inspiration for this beautiful American shot? Some favor a blue-eyed Brigitte Bardot. Jean-Pierre Gibrat focuses on Irène Jacob, as he saw her in La Double Vie de Véronique (Krzysztof Kieślowski, 1990). What does it matter, since the paper women modeled by the artist are born directly from his pencil and his soul? This subtly domineering Cécile reigns over a composite decor: "I literally 'built' the fountain," says Gibrat. "As for the bowls players, they're authentic. But I systematically used the existing light, that of Aveyron." While her face is both seductive and human, Cécile's hands - especially the left, long and slender, flat on her thigh, the right being more sketchy - are highly worked. In addition to the bolero's realistic material, note also the slight, subtle asymmetry of the face, which, according to Jean-Pierre Gibrat, is a sign of life and true charm.
