Vents d'Ouest
Paulo Rider with his Harley Low Rider.
Original illustration created for a diary after the 1991 release of the first album.
Signed. India ink and colored inks on paper
14.7 × 7.7 cm (5.79 × 3.03 in.)
Please note! Despite its long forks, this Harley-Davidson is a Low Rider, not a chopper. Popularized by the film Easy Rider (1969), the chopper is equipped with fork tubes even longer than those shown here, and features in-house modifications. Yet everything about this machine is original - except, perhaps, the mufflerless exhausts.
"And naturally, this kind of machine could only be ridden by a biker. And you could say that I've looked after him, my biker. There's nothing missing. Not the long, dodgy hair, not the Viking whiskers, not the leather mittens, not the denim vest over an old Perfecto. His slouched posture and the strange cigarette he pinches between his lips convince us that, while our man is obviously a great traveler, he's not one to hurry to his destination. He does, however, share one thing with Joe's intrepid customers, and that thing is the following motto: It's not the goal that counts, it's the path. Except that he takes his time to enjoy the journey.
