LAUFFRAY - Lot 136
LAUFFRAY MATHIEU LAUFFRAY STAR WARS Original cover of the magazine Casus Belli n° 89 in 1995, also published in the book La Guerre des étoiles : la saga Star Wars vue en France (Huginn & Muninn, 2015) and in Axis Mundi by Mathieu Lauffray (Ankama Éditions, 2013). Signed. Acrylic and Gesso on paper 50 × 37 cm (19.69 × 14.57 in.) When George Lucas released Star Wars in theaters in 1977, the young Mathieu Lauffray was seven years old. It was truly the film of a generation that, through its narrative and special effects, would revolutionize the perception of science fiction throughout the world. It is the moment when the race to space takes on a mythological dimension. When, almost 20 years later, Olivier Vatine asked Mathieu Lauffray to illustrate the covers of the comics he produced for the Dark Horse Comics license, he realized a childhood dream that would allow him to travel in all aspects of this protean universe. This cover is one of the few he did with Darth Vader. Ah, my Star Wars illustrations. If you only knew how exciting it was for me: Lucasfilm, Darkhorse, working with Vatine, Blanchard. The kings of pop culture invited me to the party, it was too good, I gave it my all. This cover is special because it was made for Casus Belli magazine. For me, it was a chance because the main characters of the series are not in the comics of that time. So I had the ONLY chance to paint Vader, Yoda, Luke, Leia and of course, the falcon An iconic cover of this universe. I often feel like doing it again Mathieu Lauffray
