TABARY - Lot 123
TABARY JEAN TABARY IZNOGOUD L'Anniversaire d'Iznogoud (T.19), Éditions De La Séguinière 1987 Original plate n° 17. Signed. India ink on paper 41.8 × 55 cm (16.46 × 21.65 in.) Jean Tabary has a genius for grimacing, a bit like Louis de Funès in the movies. It is not for nothing that the latter had been approached, just before his death, to play the role of the vizier. In Iznogoud, there is always a tension. Tabary, with his sharp drawing, participates in the ambient laughter. Faced with an Iznogoud tense as a bow ready to break, he draws a round and debonair Haroun El Poussah, always lying on his sofa. However, Iznogoud deplores it: it is impossible to overthrow someone who is lying down! As Goscinny says, still in Iznogoud: "The pun is infamous but the thing is splendid."
