TILLIEUX - Lot 84
TILLIEUX MAURICE TILLIEUX GIL JOURDAN Le Chinois à deux roues (T.10), Dupuis 1967 Original plate n°14 prepublished in Le Journal de Spirou n°1470 of June 16, 1966. India ink on paper 31 × 42 cm (12.2 × 16.54 in.) When Maurice Tillieux created Le Chinois à deux roues, an enigmatic title that makes you want to read the story, he was in full possession of his means. The argument is borrowed from a story by Felix, Parallèle 22, which Tillieux wrote in 1950 for Heroic-Albums, itself inspired by George Arnaud's novel, Le Salaire de la peur, which would be adapted to film by Clouzot. This plate is characteristic of the realism that Tillieux instills in his stories, to allow the adventure of boy scouts à la Tintin to evolve into a hard boiled semi-realism with punchy dialogues. One will note the quality of his sticky monsoon rains and the finesse of the exchanges between the characters. But as Tillieux says: "We are not going to make a book of it".
