JOUBERT - Lot 27
JOUBERT PIERRE JOUBERT Original illustration for the back cover of the calendar of the French Federation of Scouting in 1988. Signed. Gouache on paper 32.5 × 49.8 cm (12.8 × 19.61 in.) This scout waving a patrol pennant is accompanied by a frieze of figures in the background, which is quite remarkable because it is a fairly rare motif in Joubert's work, even though it is found in very different periods. A portrait of a French sovereign, painted in 1940 and unpublished, seems to be the first representation of this type. Then the series of adolescence through the ages, painted from 1972 to 1974, takes up the idea. The very particular way of painting with a very diluted gouache, highlighted with details that bring out the blood of the wounds, is close to the drawings of the 1950s, such as some of those of the Tales of the Executioner or the cover of the 1953 edition of the Ayacks Gang.
