GILLON PAUL GILLON THE CASTAWAYS OF TIME Le Sceau de Beselek (T.7), Les Humanoïdes Associés 1979 Original plate n° 10 pre-published in Métal Hurlant n° 38 of February 1979. The phylacteries are glued on the board India ink on paper 65 × 83 cm (25.59 × 32.68 in.) In the 1960s, Paul Gillon was the most sought-after illustrator in Paris. The French press moguls Paul Winkler (Le Journal de Mickey), Daniel Filipacchi (Paris-Match, Chouchou), and Pierre Lazareff (France-Soir) were all after him. Created on a script by Jean-Claude Forest (the creator of Barbarella) for Chouchou (1964), Les Naufragés du temps was then published in France-Soir (1974), then in Métal Hurlant (1977), thus accompanying the evolution of French comics. The 1982 Angoulême Grand Prix made the series more and more sexy. The size of the format of these plates can be explained by the fact that Paul Gillon, affected since the age of 11 by an incurable coxalgia (tuberculosis of the hip), drew standing.
