AUBIN ANTOINE AUBIN BLAKE AND MORTIMER Eight hours in Berlin (T.29), Blake and Mortimer 2022 Original plate n° 21. Signed. India ink on paper 32 x 45 cm (12,6 x 17,72 in.) Return of Colonel Olrik, dressed in his Secret of Swordfish uniform. He triumphs in his Art Deco office, soon joined by the story's villainous doctor, who enters the scene. Mortimer is trapped in the intertwining geometric pattern of the decor, which repeats the pattern of the board as well as the pattern of his jacket. We knew Olrik as an art dealer in The Mystery of the Great Pyramid. Here we discover him as an art lover and collector. Archipenko and Poliakov underline the Russian character of the place, while the Chinese art objects recall the character's first tribulations in the Far East. The idea here is to establish a parallel between Olrik and his sworn enemies who, as we know, exhibit their own collection in the Park Lane salon. We notice the battle horse, present in both places, symbol of their antagonism. But Olrik, who exhibits modern art, is in the vanguard. Blake and Mortimer are just running behind him. And they will catch up with him. Antoine Aubin
