Suffering from coxalgia (tuberculosis of the hip) since childhood, Paul Gillon drew in a standing position, so to speak, never in the same position, on large formats. His drawing comes from the classic comics he discovered in the hospital in the great pre-war illustrated books: the theatrical layouts of Flash Gordon by Alex Raymond, the sumptuous black and white of Terry & the Pirates by Milton Caniff, the impeccable drawing of Prince Valiant by Hal Foster or the inventive pen strokes of René Giffey.
